Follow Emma on Her Tea Journey
Let’s follow Emma as she attends different tea tasting events. Emma is a black tea drinker but tends to drink the same one or two black teas all the time. When she looks at our tea menu, she sees 23 black teas. She has never tasted 21 of those black teas but doesn’t want to blindly purchase those teas and possibly be disappointed. What a perfect time for Emma to sign up for one of our black tea tastings for expert guidance.
Our staff will pick out six to eight black teas from our menu. Each of these teas will be expertly brewed with the proper amount of tea, water temperature, and brewing time. This ensures Emma experiences the tea how it is meant to be experienced.
Our tea specialist will present a general tea education so Emma understands the different categories of tea and why they look and taste so unique. Each tea will be explained as to where they are grown and how they are processed. Emma examines the dry tea leaves for shape, size, color and aroma. After brewing, the same tea leaves are presented, and Emma sees how they change with brewing. The brewed tea will be poured into small clear cups so all can see the magnificent color and enjoy the aroma.
Finally, Emma will taste the tea and be guided on what to look for. Is the tea smooth? Is it astringent? Is there any bitterness? What are the flavor notes of the tea? How long does the aftertaste linger on the palate? Emma is able to join in lively discussions with other like-minded tea lovers, making new friends along the way.
At the end of the tasting, Emma can recognize which teas she likes and wants to continue drinking. She also has gained an understanding of which other black teas she will probably like even without tasting them. She has learned that she likes the subtle complexities of single origin teas rather than blends. She also recognizes that she likes the smoothness and less astringency of black teas from China.
After fine-tuning her black tea preferences, Emma decides she would like to try drinking green teas. She has only ever tried one and did not like it. Are there other green teas she might like better? She signs up for one of our Green Tea Tastings. The format is identical to the black tea tasting. Because green teas are very sensitive to brewing technique, she can be ensured that the green teas will be brewed to perfection, allowing her to make honest assessments. This allows her to decide if she likes green teas from China, India or Japan better. She gets to assess the different flavor profiles as well as learning how to brew them properly at home so they are just as tasty there as at the event.
Emma is beginning to feel more confident about choosing teas and experiencing ones she never would have before attending our tea tastings. She has also noticed that we introduce six to eight new seasonal teas periodically throughout the year. She would love to try them all, but what would they taste like? Once again, one of our tea tastings comes to her rescue. In our seasonal tea tastings, Emma gets a chance to learn about these teas, how they were created, and what they taste like. She now knows which ones she wants to purchase to enjoy in the comfort of her home.
